Please excuse my absence this last week, I went to see my parents for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic!! So I was a little off the grid. I also recently got a new place to live so I apologize at all if my posts are spotty!! Moving is exhausting. but I love to bring you guys these books so here is today's!! We have given you color theory books before,but as it is one of the most basic ways we as artists Express ourselves, there is never too much information!! This is very comprehensive guide that kind of does a lot of information on properties of color, light and the fundamentals of color mixing and color theory. Never underestimate how important color knowledge is to what we do.

This week's selection comes from the comparable Adrian Rugby. This book came out a few years ago and focuses on a minority in our field, which surprisingly is still a minority: women. Look at the women who paved the way and continue to make strides and do amazing work in our field. BUY THIS TODAY!!

Something a little different today!! One important aspects of being a MUA Is the art behind it. And one of the most used mediums in our field is clay and sculpting. I feel it is so important to be tactile in our business-really get your hands in it!! And there is no better way in my opinion than to be sculpting. While we tend to use clay mostly in our field, there are SO many other mediums in which you can work. Check out this course, a really lovely book for starting off!!

Michael Westmore is a king of our craft. Read about his journey and gain insight to so much knowledge!! The Westmore dynasty is so important in our world. And what a lovely man as well!! A true inspiration.

Metamorphosis is a beautiful, 2 volume tome chronicling the amazing Rick Baker's more than 40 years in our industry. It has more than 1600 pictures and sketches from his career and couldn't be more amazing. Your library is not complete without this very important addition from a master of his craft. Check it out!!

Sorry for the hiatus all, sometimes life, you know!! Here is our book for today, recommended by the wonderful MUA Alex DeSoto. (it is her words on the picture). We can sometimes get bogged down in the minutiae of our day to day in our field, and kind of forget what is at the core of what we do- Art and Color. A great resource book for just that. Full disclosure- I didn't write this next description- comes from Amazon, but I thought it explained it beautifully. "Sanzo Wada (1883-1967) was an artist, teacher, costume and kimono designer during a turbulent time in avant-garde Japanese art and cinema. Wada was ahead of his time in developing traditional and Western influenced colour combinations, helping to lay the foundations for contemporary colour research. Based on his original 6-volume work from the 1930s, this book offers 348 color combinations, as attractive and sensuous as the books own design." This is more than a book, it is an art piece. An essential add to one's collection!!

Not every book that we use is a makeup book- some of the most inspiring things can be to delve into the movies of the past. The ones that made us love the medium in the first place!! I think no collection is complete without some form of film compendium, and this one is so comprehensive. Called The Film Encyclopedia, it truly is that!! Set up just like any good encyclopedia, you can look up actors, companies, films and get all sorts of information. It is important to not only be knowledgeable in our field of hair and makeup, but you should have a good working knowledge of all aspects!! This book is such a beautiful piece of art!! It is one of my very favorite books I have ever owned actually!! Anatomy is such an important subject for us has artists to understand. And this book does a beautiful job of displaying that in a way an artist's brain can understand. Anatomy for the Artist Sarah Simblet

This book was one of my very first makeup books I ever purchased and I couldn't put it down. Step by step instructions, lots of pictures, lots of artists profiles, so accessible- Just a really great effects book. I will forever be a huge fan of Todd Debreceni. Genius!! Check this one out for sure. Who has this one?
